‘Serious loopholes in women security’

Alleging that the alleged incident of rape of a deaf and dump girl in Bhubaneswar exposes the serious loopholes in women security in the Capital City, the National Commission for Women (NCW) suggested, inter alia, constitution of a Special Task Force in the city and gender sensitivity committee in all educational institutes.
The Commission, which had formed a two member committee to probe the alleged incident, also asked the government to provide a job and adequate compensation to the victim. 
It may be mentioned here that the Commission had stepped in after it was alleged that an instruction with a government-run vocational training institute had repeatedly committed the ghastly crime with a differently-girl taking her to a lodge.
“We have asked the state police to take immediate measures to constitute a Special Task Force to conduct regular raids on all hotels an lodgings in the city to ensure that they strictly adhere to the enforcement codes, maintain a regular register with details of all guests staying in their facilities and mandatorily tip off the police on suspicious inmates as well as their guests,” said Ms Manasi Pradhan, an NCW probe committee member. 
She stressed on constitution of the gender sensitivity committee in all the educational institutes. 
“In view of large number of lady students and working women staying in the city in private hostels, the state police are also directed bring the private hostels into the purview of this task force and ensure regular checks on this private hostels,” she said.  Trial of the case in a fast track court and appointment of a special public prosecutor were the other major suggestions of the Commission. 
Observing that the victim, despite being deaf and dumb, has shown enormous willpower to stand on her own feet and she has adequate technical education, Ms Pradhan asked the state government to make arrangement for her suitable employment. The government has also been directed to adequately compensate the girl.  Ms Pradhan observed that the state government will have to lay the inquiry report with action taken report in the Assembly as per section 10 (3) of National Commission for Women Act 1990.
