Q: Why is Fail Fandom Anon moving?
A: Because LiveJournal is increasingly broken as a platform. The lack of customer support and extended outages have made the meme almost unusable for an increasing number of nonnies, and we are losing confidence in LiveJournal’s long-term viability as a platform that can support FFA.
Q: Why Dreamwidth?
A: Dreamwidth offers a platform similar enough to LiveJournal to be familiar to LJ users, and Dreamwidth offers technical support and stability that are not available on any other LJ-type site.
Q. But Dreamwidth is ugly/not functional/I hates it.
A: That’s fine. The current Dreamwidth version of FFA is in its infancy. We expect the physical appearance of the meme and the features available to change over the coming months to meet nonnies’ needs. The important thing is that we are much more confident that Dreamwidth will be available as a functional platform for FFA through 2015 and beyond, while we are very concerned that LiveJournal’s increasing outages and decreasing levels of support mean that it will stop being viable as a functional platform for FFA.
Q. I protest. I want a poll/survey/lip sync contest/dance-off/WRONG on the internet protest.
A. We are sorry that you do not approve of the move. The mod team has archives dating to July 5, 2010 -- roughly 1.6 MILLION comments left on FFA. A surprising number of them involve the merits of LJ vs. DW. This move is due to the increasing usability and support issues with LiveJournal, not due to any specific preference for moving to Dreamwidth.
Also, LiveJournal vs. Dreamwidth wank is now perma-banned. Nonnies are welcome to talk about different features, and to suggest improvements to either site. Wanking about LJ vs. DW has been going on since the creation of Dreamwidth -- there is nothing new or interesting to say.
Q. Why can’t we move to a new and different platform provided by dememe nonnie?
A. Because dememe nonnie is not insane/that much of a masochist. And because FFA nonnies have not provided dememe nonnie with generous funding, a vast array of robust servers, and a staff of 24/7 competent coding
Q. Seriously. I hate Dreamwidth.
A. The LiveJournal meme will be open for business as usual until July 5, 2014. After that date, while we are not currently planning to close the LJ version of FFA entirely to commenting, the mods’ main focus will be on the DW meme. Our current plan is that for at least some time, the current LJ version of FFA will remain open as a backup meme in case of DW issues, and users will be able to comment there if they truly prefer, just as the DW backup has been open for ongoing commenting in the past. However, the official home of FFA will be the DW meme.
Q. I don’t like the Dreamwidth meme’s appearance/I have a suggestion for graphics/I know how to make DW themes.
A. There is a special post, located here: http://fail-fandomanon.dreamwidth.org/86494.html where nonnies are welcome to contribute to the appearance of the Dreamwidth version of FFA with suggestions/graphics/styles/etc. The mod team welcomes the input, and knows that the DW meme is in need of serious appearance assistance. We are very much hoping that nonnies who can help with this will offer.
Q. Can I meme on Dreamwidth AND Livejournal?
A. You are welcome to meme at LJ, DW, or LJ & DW. Bimeming is relevant to our interests.
Q. Why July 5, 2014?
A. Meme was founded July 5, 2010. Moving on the meme’s birthday just seems right. Additionally, the two month notice will give everyone time to make the transition.
Q. What about the critters? And the ponies? How does the kraken feel about the move?
A. The compound will be moving to DW in some form. However, during the transition period, the number of critters per post will be reduced to lessen the load on the mod team. We do promise that random ponies, Thors, and the like will make appearances.
Q. I hate the critters. Hate them.
A. Bummer.
Q. I thought it was Nonny? Nonnie is just wrong.
A. It can be whatever you like it to be, but for the sake of consistency and copy editing, “nonnie” has been selected for this FAQ.
