In 2019, Zelensky announced a partial withdrawal of forces from Donbass. His soldiers revolted. He went to Zolote to speak to them. Azov troops told him they wouldn't let him pull back. Here he is getting chewed out by a soldier. Later, nationalists threatened to kill him.
UK article about Azov & other nationalist forces telling President Zelensky that they would not permit him to pull back from the Donbass war. They promised to bring in 10,000 new fighters for every 1,000 he tried to withdraw. Extremists control Ukraine.

The man talking down to President Zelensky in the video is Denys Yantar - former leader of the National Corps party - an offshoot of the ultranationalist Azov Battalion that is home to Nazi extremists. He died in 2020, allegedly from "blood cancer".

Battle of Kyiv Thread 2/

Because of Social Media, we have a unique ability to reconstruct history in near-real time, to know EXACTLY what happened and WHEN. And sort out the lies, propaganda and 'fog of war'. Not WHILE it happens, but very shortly thereafter

This is my attempt Image
Battle of Kyiv Thread 3/

During the battle we cannot know WHICH of the social media postings is accurate, even to the best honest efforts of those posting (because it could have been misunderstanding or a deliberate military diversion, intended to get attention). But after.. Image

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT SWEDEN 🧵

ICYMI, science journal Nature has published a scathing assessment of Sweden's pandemic response as the country declares COVID's endemicity. 1/16
The damning "Evaluation of science advice during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden" by Brusselaers et al paints a grim picture of a country seemingly culling its elderly & vulnerable populations while deliberately infecting children in an effort to reach "herd immunity". 2/16
*More on herd immunity & COVID can be found in Nature here: tinyurl.com/MythicalHerdIm…

"The Swedish response to this pandemic," the researchers report, "was unique and characterized by a morally, ethically, and scientifically questionable laissez-faire approach." 3/16

Things to do when a friend is in a tough spot and your go-to response is to reframe their situation in a positive light… a thread 🧵
1. Listen. Ask them if they’d like to share more. Verbalize the feelings you’re witnessing, validate those feelings. Ask where they’re feeling those emotions in their body. Mirror them.
2. Let. Them. Cry. Do not offer to leave or log-off of hang up for their privacy. Recognize that’s your discomfort you’re expressing when you offer that as a solution. It’s not a solution— it’s you asking them to take their hurt elsewhere. Hold them. Cry with them.

Parents have to choose their battles.

8 fights worth picking with your kids:
Parenting is hard.

We're all figuring it out as we go.

One of the most difficult things to sort through is when to take a stand,

And when to let up.

There's no magic formula for figuring this out,

But these are a few things I've found worth squaring off with your kids over.
The Reading Fight:

Make your kids read.

Of my four kids, one was a natural reader who always had a book in his hands.

For the others, it was a fight.

But it's a fight worth picking,

Because reading is tied to everything from cognitive development to the ability to focus.

Bucha, 4 weeks ago, Russian volunteer Artyom Shirobokov (“Yesenin”) wrote a text I couldn’t confirm and did not publish because of possible «literary exaggerations». It was my mistake.

«How I escaped from the Orc [i.e. Russian] encirclement and what I have to tell» 1/ Image
My unit, as part of civil defense, had faced the enemy in the city of X (I won’t disclose the particulars for obvious reasons).

We were able to fight off the first attack, the second one put more pressure on us, they had a lot of heavy equipment. 2/
Our unit had split up a bit and my group wound up in the rear of the Russians’ position. The next four long days we made our way to the Ukrainian troops. We changed into civilian clothing, crawled under enemy tanks through the fields, and even spent time in captivity. 3/

1) PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE THREAD. IT IS URGENT.

Not only did the normal mice develop plaques, but also a

Latest Zelenskyy address from last night. It's powerful, and it should be devastating for some in West to hear. In it, he switches between Ukrainian and Russian to deliver a message in response to the war crimes in Bucha. What follows is graphic. Here are main points...
1/
“Today’s address will begin without greetings,” Zelenskyy begins in Ukrainian. “I don't want to use extra words. Presidents don’t normally record addresses like this. But today I must, after what was revealed in Bucha and in our other cities the occupiers were pushed out of." 2/
In Bucha, Zelenskyy says, Ukrainian forces retaking the city found "Hundreds of dead people. Peaceful people tortured, and shot dead. Dead bodies on the streets. Mined land. Even the bodies of those who were killed were mined. Everywhere, the consequences of looting." 3/

Many people now can believe neither Russia nor Ukraine info, saying it is all propaganda. This is a reasonable doubt. As a journalist before the war I used to criticize Zelensky, corruption of his party, his office head a lot. I kept my critical approach now too. Thread👇
Martial law allows our government to control the information. And it is right during the war and they hide a lot of info. But. 👇
Because we have free internet and they can't control numerous journalists, including foreign ones working at a scene, it would be harder for them to create the same kind of propaganda machine. And it seems they are not trying. At least for now. How would I know? 👇
