Photos: Doodling India's Women

The gang rape and murder of a young student aboard a moving bus in December unleashed a bout of national soul-searching on how India treats its women. In the aftermath of the crime, women and children took to streets demanding harsher penalties and better policing, prompting India to draft new laws aimed at safeguarding its women.

So for its annual "Doodle for Google" contest this year, Google India asked schoolchildren to design doodles in honor of India's women. The contest received entries from hundreds of children across the country, even from those as young as six years old.
