Suns’ Chris Paul passes Steve Nash for epic NBA record after monster takeover vs. Pelicans

There’s been so much fuss being made about LeBron James’ age-37 season, but let’s not forget that Chris Paul has been an age-defying marvel all the same. The big difference is that the Los Angeles Lakers’ season is over and that the Phoenix Suns have been the best team in the NBA this season thanks in large part to CP3.

Chris Paul showed up in a big way for his team in their Game 1 clash against the New Orleans Pelicans. He scored 19 points in the fourth quarter just as their opponents were making a furious rally to come back from a huge deficit.

But CP3 flipped the switch and buried the Pels, finishing with 30 points and 10 assists on a spectacular 12-for-16 shooting clip from the field. At almost 37-years-old, that etches the Suns star into yet another piece of NBA history. He overtakes fellow Suns point guard Steve Nash for the distinction as well.

Steve Nash was also 36 when he tallied 31 points and 10 assists in a nine-point win over the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Semis a full 12 years ago. He wouldn’t turn 37 until the next calendar year, though. Chris Paul turns 37 next month.

Chris Paul continues to defy Father Time. After Sunday’s game, safe to say he’s not planning to change course anytime soon.
