March 3, 2014

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of one of Bay State College’s founders, George J. Brennan, Jr.  Brennan passed away this morning at the age of 93.

Brennan, a proud veteran, served as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps. He survived being shot down twice in the Pacific during the course of flying 245 missions in a Douglas Dauntless naval dive bomber, as well as a F4U Corsair aircraft. Brennan earned 7 distinguished flying crosses with 7 gold stars. He eventually went on to fly for Northeast Airlines, and then played the most instrumental role in our history by founding Bay State College in 1946 as an institution to train professionals for the airline industry.

“I spoke with Mr. Brennan’s daughter this morning,” says Bay State College President, Craig Pfannenstiehl. “She told me that Bay State College and the marines were the whole world to him. He made a tremendous impact on the College, me personally, and all those lucky enough to know him.   The world and our College lost a great human being today.”

Brennan leaves behind his wife Ruth of 69 years, 6 children, 25 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
