Celtic sign Tom Rogic from Central Coast Mariners

Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic

Australian midfielder Tom Rogic has completed a move to Celtic from Central Coast Mariners, with the fee reported to be about £400,000.

The 20-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, with the deal subject to a work permit.

Celtic said "an application will be made to the appropriate authorities in the next couple of days".

Rogic had been on trial with Neil Lennon's side and attended their recent training camp in Marbella.

Speaking on Twitter,external-link Lennon said: "Very pleased to have acquired Tom Rogic for the club... very talented young player."

Central Coast manager Lawrie McKinna previously described Rogic's training spell with Celtic as "a great opportunity".

"Celtic are preparing for Champions League matches against Juventus, so Tom will undoubtedly learn a lot," he added.

    Another good piece of scouting by the Celtic managerial/backroom staff. Tom Rogic is only 20 and certainly seems to have potential. Even if he doesn't quite reach the expected levels, it's still a worthwhile gamble at only half-a-million pounds. There is now very strong competition for places in the central midfield area.

    I've just escaped the Dundee utd page to discover that this page is very much the same littered with anti-spl comments. Fair enough the SPL is poor but unless you highlight the problems and offer solution's then there's no point just having a dig for the sake of it.
    Let's have 3 leagues of 14, introduce play offs and Incentive's for young people to go to match's and increase attendance's!

    I feel I should make a comment as someones who has seens him play every week for the last 1 and half years at the Mariners. This guy is a talent and I promise all Celtic fans he will make the grade at your club and by the end of the next season you will be loving him. Fantastic on the ball and and amazing awareness of what is going on around him. remember the name as he will go on to make it big

    Too many fans of the EPL put the SPL down. Celtic can't help what league they play in so rather than have a dig at the SPL, concentrate on Celtic's acheivements this year. We're in the last 16 of the CL which the EPL Champions and last year's CL Winners are not. It's not as if we had an easy group either.

    Kudos to chief scout, John Park who picks up players for buttons who then do well for us.

    Hopefully another piece of good scouting - we have the right infrastructure throughout the club to identify and develop potential and are playing on a stage that can showcase that talent.

    Media talk of "glamour" signings can stay that way.

    Some silly people on this thread don't realise how huge a club Celtic is, worldwide, the majority of Premiership teams aren't at our level.

    Looking forward to seeing the big man play, hopefully hes the creative player we are looking for.

    Lawrie McKinna isn't the manager of Central Coast Mariners, he's more like the technical director. Former Australian national team player and manager Graham Arnold is their manager.

    @86 No one would deny that the teams you mention have access to greater resources purely because of the money that is made available to them via the Sky TV Deal.

    My point would be is that other than Man U and, perhaps Liverpool, Celtic have a bigger World Wide fan base than these teams. As such, Celtic would thrive in the EPL and would easily challenge these teams on a level playing field.
