Can you say Subway Series?

Yes, it’s way, way, way too early to predict another World Series featuring the New York Yankees and New York Mets. But as April comes to a close, the baseball clubs in the Big Apple appear to be on a collision course to meet in the Fall Classic for the first time since 2000.

The Yankees are in first place in the American League East and own the best record in the American League at 13-6.

The Mets are in first place in the National League East and own the best record in all of baseball at 14-6.

The clubs will meet at Citi Field in July for a two-game series, then meet again for a two-game set in August at Yankee Stadium.

On Friday, the Yankees will try to extend their six-game winning streak when they open a three-game series at the Kansas City Royals. Nestor Cortes (1.15 ERA in three starts) will get the ball for New York.

The Mets, meanwhile, will go for their fourth win in five games when they open a three-game set at home with the Philadelphia Phillies. Tylor Megill (3-0, 2.35 ERA) will be on the mound for New York.
