Acts 13:13-41

February 23, 1997

 

Redemption:

            Through Him - forgiveness of sins

            Through Him - justified

...For everyone who believes

 

Introduction

- Summarizes Old Testament vv. 16-22

- This leads to promise of Messiah v. 23

- John the Baptist's testimony vv. 24-25

- Rejection of Christ by Jewish religious leaders vv. 26-28

- Fulfillment of prophecies concerning His death v. 27

- Death and resurrection testified of vv. 29-31...the central apostolic message

I. We proclaim the fulfillment of God's promises (vv. 32-37)

 

Good news of:

1. Incarnation (v. 33)

2. Inviolable Messiah (v. 34)

3. Resurrection (vv. 35-37)

 

II. We proclaim forgiveness of sins (v. 38)

 

1. By the mediator - "through Him"

2. Release from the guilt of sin - a new 'family' relationship, heirs

 

III. We proclaim justification through Jesus Christ v. 39

 

1. Law cannot make any perfect (the problem is not in the Law, but in us)

2. This is a complete, right standing with God

3. The promise is for those believing

 

IV. We proclaim a warning of rejecting God's good news (vv. 40-41)
