Doug "Opulent" Merrill
1. General information
-----------------------

Your name:
Doug "Opulent" Merrill
You live in (city & country):
Scottsdale, Arizona, USA
Your birthdate (or age):
December 3, 1967
Your occupation/job/studies:
History. job???
Your hobbies:
Doom2 and Quake2; Demofreak
Anything you want to add here (about yourself):
http://www.goodnet.com/~opulent/doom2.htm
I have 2 brothers that kick my ass regularly in Quake1/2/3.

2. DOOM-related information
-------------------------------

Your DOOM config (key bindings, controllers):
Left-shift|z|left-ctrl|left-alt
s-run|mouse2-strafe-on|a-turn-left
(I use the same cfg for ALL games -- started with Descent(1))

Size of DOOM directory on your HD:
used to be 1.5GB; now a paltry 663MB
First contact to COMPET-N (when, how etc.):
I remember confusing it with DHT; back when both were at ftp.cdrom.com...
First COMPET-N demo:
Ns25-117
Favourite COMPET-N demo(s) from yourself (the one(s) that you're most proud of):
err... I only have one. =(
I _am_ proud of some of my Pdang runs; like pa20-038.

Favourite COMPET-N demo(s) from others:
http://www.goodnet.com/~opulent/demo/competn.htm
all 4 30nm. -especially Panter's 4949.
Henning's lv03-024, 0652uv01; Adam H.'s nm04-102, nm07-051, nm30-030, e4nm1143; Panter's lv14-033; and Esko's lv19-041.

Favourite DOOM or DOOM2 map:
Map14.
Favourite TC/megawad:
Hell Revealed (because of the great demos that come with it).
Do you like Quake?
Especially quake2.
In FFA -- 40 frags in x minutes with weapons-stay:
q2dm1 5
q2dm2 ?(done 30 in 3)
q2dm7 5(done 30 in 3)
q2dm8 5(done 35 in 3)
I'd just like to say that I'm much better at Quake2 than Doom.

What do you think of DOOM now?
Still the best game available. Map design for UT and Quake3 is average at best...
Anything you want to add here:
I only have -and will only ever have- one Compet-N demo. When I got it, my cheat sheet told me that it WAS a record; but it wasn't even a good performance for me, so I didn't believe it. Sedlic learned that I beat one of his many NS records and quickly replied with a Ns25-059; unfortunately for everyone, he bowed out of demo-recording and decided that his incredible lv24-037 would be his last run.
Ralf S. emailed me with the good news. thanks Ralf.
Personally, I think that the SDA and QDQ sites do well for Quake... but they don't touch what the Compet-N offers DOOM.
I suppose, compared to other people's inferiority complexes, mine really isn't much to talk about...

Opulent has been around in the demo scene for quite a while. He plays in our contests quite regularly, and also is an enthusiastic Public DANG player. His best times are not too far away from COMPET-N records... maybe someday he'll be able to convert those into world record times. Has one of the best demo sites out on the Net - see link above :)
