The American Craft Museum has chosen four finalists to compete for the reconstruction of 2 Columbus Circle, the long-vacant marble building overlooking Central Park. They are Zaha Hadid of London, Smith-Miller & Hawkinson Architects of Manhattan, Toshiko Mori Architect of Manhattan, and Allied Works Architecture of Portland, Ore. The almost windowless structure, designed by Edward Durell Stone, was built 38 years ago as Huntington Hartford's Gallery of Modern Art. The craft museum plans to buy it from New York City and renovate it for its new home, more than tripling the space it now has at 40 West 53rd Street.
