It has been an interesting year for Indian cinema as far as 2022 is concerned. There have been films that have done exceptionally well and some came as a huge surprise. From The Kashmir Files, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, to others, here's a look at how Indian films fared at the box office in the first half of 2022.

Box office half yearly report card

2022 has been an interesting year when it comes to Bollywood films and their box office numbers. The year has primarily marked the return of the audiences to the theatres after a long time. 2021 suffered owing to the COVID-19 curbs but films like Sooryavanshi and 83 managed to keep the interest of moviegoers afloat.

Meanwhile, regional films also did great, including Allu Arjun's Pushpa: The Rise as it collected Rs 184.62 crore worldwide. And now, with 6 months in 2022, it is safe to say that things have changed and evolved for better as far as Indian cinema is concerned.

Here's looking at films that made it big in 2022:

The Kashmir Files

This Vivek Agnihotri directorial manages to break all records this year as for a Hindi movie goes. The movie narrates the horrific tale of the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990s. The movie features Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, Mithu Chakraborty, among others. The movie was made at a budge of Rs 15 crore and raked in Rs 340.16 crore at the box office.

RRR

This film was bound to be a hit, but it managed to create so many records for any film ever and how. Well, that is the beauty of an SS Rajamouli film after all. RRR featured Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt among others and the is estimated to have had a collection of Rs 1200 crore.

KGF: Chapter 2

Another film from down South managed to rake in Rs 1200 crore while it was made on a budget of Rs 100 crore. Directed by Prashanth Neel, KGF: Chapter 2 featured Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, and Srinidhi Shetty. The franchise continues to be one of the most talked about and how.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

We cannot not talk about all the wonders that this Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, Tabu and Rajpal Yadav starrer did at the box office. Directed by Anees Bazmee, the movie turned out to be a hit with the masses and made Rs 262.04 crore and counting.

Gangubai Kathiawadi

This Alia Bhatt starrer did release with much fanfare and did in fact, do well at the box office, however, it couldn't live up to the expectations that audiences had in terms of the box office numbers. The film earned about Rs 209. 25 Cr.

Vikram

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil starrer has a worldwide collection of Rs 398.72 crore and it continues to rise!
