A year of artistic development with Coventry-based South Asian artists, and a range of community craft workshops, will culminate in the Abundance procession.
The cohort of Abundance artists include local performers, choreographers, filmmakers and community leaders.
LANTERNS
Daksha Piparia is a community arts producer and project manager who has been leading 3 months of local community workshops in Foleshill to create 100 lanterns to appear in the parade.
Nor Aziz is a creative engagement practitioner who has been working with Eden Girls' School to create lanterns for the parade.
DANCE
Amisha Patel is a motivational speaker and cultural enthusiast who has worked with Asian Blind Association, Saheli group and other Gujarati groups in Coventry on a Dandiya dance for the parade, a folk dance form of Gujarat. The oldest dancer is 76!
Sahyadri Friends Group consists of a diverse mix of families from different parts of India, who have created a folk and classical dance.
Lakshmi Srinivasan is a performer, tutor and choreographer, who has created a dance featuring spectacular peacock costumes.
COSTUME
Avtar Kaur is a costume designer who has created two incredible warrior women costumes to feature in the parade.
Nor Aziz is a creative engagement practitioner who has been working with Eden Girls' School to create butterfly costumes for the parade.
DIGITAL
Come to St Paul's Church during the parade to see a spectacular light projection created by graphic designer Gayatri Pasricha.
Bonny John has also created a soundscape that features the hustle and bustle of sounds, ambience and dialogue of Foleshill Road, Cross Road, Princess Street and Broad Street, and the streets of south India. They are all interconnected forming a gentle polyphony of an immersive sound experience.
The artists' work engages with four key themes: City of Light (illuminating our streets with lamps and lanterns), City of Sounds (creating a soundscape across the city), City of Love and Freedom (creating a playful experience suitable for all the family) and City of Hope (promoting unity and female voices).
Abundance was created in partnership with Sampad. It is part of #LoveCoventry, a Coventry UK City of Culture programme funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
