It could make for awkward conversation over the the family breakfast table: Mrs Huw Edwards is off to work for the BBC newsreader’s arch enemy at ITV.

Vicky Flind, a respected politics producer for the BBC, is getting into bed with her husband’s rivals after being poached to work on Robert Peston’s new ITV Sunday politics show, The Times has learnt.

Edwards could be forgiven for choking on his cornflakes given that the BBC news anchor has been engaged in a very public slanging match with ITV over the popularity of the two channels’ nightly news bulletins.
