Gotham Award nominees: Cate Blanchett's movie Tar leads the list as Aftersun and Everything Everywhere All At Once follow

The 2022 Gotham Awards nominations were shared in New York City on Tuesday morning.

The movie Tar starring Cate Blanchett as the iconic but troubled high-profile composter Lydia Tár led the list with five nominations. The film that followed was Aftersun starring Frankie Corio about a child on vacation in Turkey with her father. That drama landed four nominations. 

The Best Performance category was gender neutral with both actors and actresses listed.

The nominees are Blanchett in Tár, Danielle Deadwyler in Till, Dale Dickey in A Love Song, Colin Farrell in After Yang, Brendan Fraser in The Whale, Paul Mescal in Aftersun, Thandiwe Newton in God’s Country, Aubrey Plaza in Emily the Criminal, Taylor Russell in Bones and All and Michelle Yeoh in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

As far as the Best Feature category, there were several other films that did well.

The movies with three nominations each were Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Inspection and Women Talking.

Tár, Aftersun and Everything Everywhere All At Once are all nominated for best feature along with The Cathedral and Dos Estaciones.

Tar was released on October 7 from director Todd Field.

Aftersun came out on October 21 from irector Charlotte Wells.

The synopsis: At a vacation resort, 11-year-old Sophie treasures the time she spends with her loving and idealistic father. Twenty years later, Sophie reminisces about their last holiday together as she tries to come to terms with the man she didn't always know.

Everything Everywhere All At Once came out March 25 from directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. 

The film is about an 'interdimensional rupture that unravels reality,' according to a press release.

There were also nominations for TV shows. 

Abbott Elementary, Pachinko, Station Eleven, Severance, This Is Going to Hurt, Yellowjackets and As We See It, each earned two nominations.

The nominations were announced live at Cipriani Wall Street in NYC.

The awards ceremony will take place on November 28 at Cipriani Wall Street.

Gotham Award nominees are selected by committees of film and TV critics, journalists, festival programmers and film curators.

Recent Gotham Award winners have included Oscar winners Nomadland, Marriage Story, American Factory, Moonlight, Spotlight and Birdman.
