Professional wrestling is such a beautiful thing because it can hit a myriad of emotions and genres. But sometimes, storylines and segments in wrestling can be downright gross and/or make the viewer feel uncomfortable, like the Ultimate Warrior vomiting after being cursed by Papa Shango, The Undertaker hanging Big Boss Man, or the entire Katie Vick fiasco.
With a burgeoning audience of teenage and young adult males throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, many WWE angles were geared towards sex. Whether it was Sable and her "38 Specials," The Godfather's Ho Train, The Big Valbowski, all the scantily clad women and their "PUPPIES!", or the seemingly unending number of Bra & Panties or Evening Gown Matches, the product certainly underwent a large shift. A lot of it was a sign of the times, and mostly in good fun, but sometimes it could be downright trashy, especially in the case of the Torrie Wilson and Dawn Marie feud in late 2002 and into early 2003.
Dawn Marie Got Kayfabe Engaged With Torrie Wilson's Real Life Father, Al
Torrie Wilson was one of the most popular (and obviously beautiful) WWE divas in the early 2000s. Dawn Marie wanted to prove that she was the hottest diva in WWE, and challenged Torrie to a bikini contest, which she lost by fan vote. Not wanting Torrie to get one over on her, Dawn Marie then challenged her to a lingerie contest, which Dawn also lost by fan vote. As an act of revenge, Dawn began flirting with Torrie's father Al Wilson backstage during SmackDown.
Torrie defeated Dawn Marie in a match at No Mercy 2002, causing Dawn to turn up the heat even further. Dawn Marie proceeded to get more serious with Al, and the two got engaged on the November 7th episode of SmackDown. And then things began to unfold like a bad soap opera or a segment on the Jerry Springer Show.
Dawn Marie Claimed She'd Call Off The Engagement If Torrie Spent A Night In A Hotel With Her
Torrie was quite furious with Dawn's advances on her father, and especially the engagement. It was obvious that Dawn Marie was manipulating Al Wilson, but he refused to see it as he was in hog heaven, getting to make out with a hot, and much younger woman. Torrie did her best to try and convince her father that Dawn was not acting with the best of intentions in a series of backstage segments, but again, Al didn't care.
Dawn Marie told Torrie she would call off the engagement with Al if she spent a night with her in a hotel room. Torrie begrudgingly agreed, and Dawn would show the footage on the Titantron at Armageddon 2002. Torrie very nervously showed up to Dawn's room, and Dawn very sexually began feeding her strawberries. Dawn slowly stripped Torrie down to her bra and panties, much to the delight of the crowd. Dawn caressed the nervous Torrie and stripped down to her own bra and panties, and proceeded to kiss Torrie on the neck, cheek and eventually lips. Surprisingly, Torrie returned the kiss on the lips, and it was a full-throttle make out session, until Al Wilson came out and demanded the footage stop. Naturally, it was all part of the ploy by Dawn to embarrass Torrie, and the wedding would happen on the January 2nd SmackDown.
Dawn Marie & Al Got Married In Their Underwear, Then Al Died The Following Week From Too Much Sex
When the officiant asked if anyone objected the wedding, of course the crowd showed their displeasure, but Dawn Marie also objected because she promised she'd get married in the nude, although Stephanie McMahon would only permit her to go down to her bra and panties. Shortly after Al unzipped Dawn's dress, she claimed that Al was going to get married naked. She stripped him down and teased pulling his underwear down, but stopped because she "didn't want the whole world to see the biggest reason she was marrying him." They went on with the ceremony, and it was all dreadful and cringe worthy.
The next week on SmackDown, footage was shown from their honeymoon. Al was exhausted and distraught before entering the shower with Dawn "again." Later, a teary-eyed Dawn revealed that Al had passed away, implying that it was from too much rigorous sex. One can only imagine Vince McMahon really cracked himself up with that one. Naturally, Torrie and Dawn Marie fought at Al's funeral, leading to a Stepmother vs Stepdaughter match at Royal Rumble 2003, which was won by Torrie -- thankfully ending the feud. While the scantily-clad beautiful women were certainly exciting at the time, it was a complete joke of an angle and most likely done to pop Vince himself. It truly was trash TV.
