HKIFF46 PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF TO MY NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD SELF

21/08/2022

The 46th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF46) is proud to present the world premiere of seasoned director Mabel Cheung's To My Nineteen-Year-Old Self.

Set against one of the most turbulent chapters in Hong Kong's history, Cheung's documentary is genuinely a labour of love, chronicling the coming-of-age of several 11-year-old students from Ying Wa Girls' School over ten years.

And joining Cheung and producer Eunice Wong at tonight's gala screening at Premiere Elements are the five young ladies – Shirley Chan, Chloe Lun, Britney Shear, Karen Lo, and Jenny Ma.

Cheung, unquestionably one of Ying Wa's most distinguished alumna, said she had followed the growth and transformation of these Generation Z children from her old school with her camera since 2011.

"I was amazed by their resilience," Cheung said.  "Life was tough, but they remain unwavering in pursuing their dreams. The experience was a journey of self-discovery for me, too."

Taking place until 31 August, the hybrid HKIFF46 features screenings and audience-engagement events in theatres and online. The complete programme and screening schedule are available at HKIFF's official website (www.hkiff.org.hk), and the public can still purchase through URBTIX.
