New Delhi: Bageshwar Dham Sarkar alias Dhirendra Krishna Shastri has grabbed headlines off late after a Nagpur based anti-superstition organisation challenged his so-called miraculous power. Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, who is based in Chhatarpur region of Bundelkhand in Madhya Pradesh, stoked controversy after he allegedly ran away from a challenge by Maharashtra-based Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti.
Rise of self-styled godman
It is claimed that 26-year-old Bageshwar Dham 'Baba' Dhirendra Shastri can grasp the problem without a person mentioning it to the 'Baba'. It is also said that the self-styled godman can write people's problem on a piece of paper without asking the affected person.

Since the controversy erupted, the Dhirendra Krishna Shastri or the Bageshwar Dham Sarkar has been trending on social media platforms and his videos have also gone viral on Twitter. He reportedly fled from Ramkatha in Nagpur when the anti-superstition committee challenged him.

Behind Bageshwar Dham temple is the samadhi of Dhirendra Shastri's grandfather Setulal Garg Sanyasi Baba. Dhirendra also had conducted many satsangs at the place and later the place become popular as Bageshwar Dham, according to a report in Hindi daily Dainik Jagran.

Dhirendra Krishna Shastri has gained the support of various right-wing Hindu organisations who claimed that he is being targeted as he has challenged religious conversions and even carried out 'ghar wapsi' of people who had renounced their faith.

It is said that Pandit Dhirendra Shastri had spent his child amid poverty. His entire family used to live in mud house. Dhirendra completed his primary education from the government school in village. His father brought up the family with his earning as a priest.
