Windows 10 No Login Prompt RRS feed

  • Question

  • After upgrading my desktop to Windows 10 Technical Preview (which works fine on my laptop), I was no longer able to log in on my desktop. Windows starts normally, but when I arrive at the starting screen, though my Windows Account profile appears to be present (my user image is displayed), there's not even any space in which I could type my password. As such I've been stuck with a desktop at the login screen. Help?

Some background context: my desktop is has a core i5 processor, and I was upgrading from Windows 7.

  • Hello,

I guess that the problem is caused by the on-board Intel graphics adapter.

Explanation: After Windows Update installs the Intel driver for it, the adapter recognizes a non-existing display and sets it as the main Windows screen.

    Two possible solutions:

    1) connect a screen to the on-board adapter and login. Now follow 2b.

    2) press return once or twice, and blindly type in your password. This should get you to the Windows desktop.

2b) do a right click, and open screen resolution. If nothing happens the window was opened on the non-existing display. To get the window over to your attached screen hold the Windows Key on your keyboard and press the right arrow key a few times. Now you can change the main Windows screen to your actually attached display. After that, disconnect the erroneously detected display and you should be fine.

    HTH,
    Andreas

It is a " known"  issue. Microsoft is aware of that.

    Meanwhile here is the workaround......

    press Crtl+Alt+Delete keys.

That should bring back the sign in screen with the password box.

Does that work for you ?

  • I am expierencing the same Problem in build 10074 fbl impressive enterprise

Unfortunately pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del does not help - no Login box is visible, I only get asked to use a Smartcard (do not have one).

    I am using a Lenovo X240.
Actually I rolled back to build 10049, there it is working.

  • no Login box is visible

If you think it is there but just hiding somewhere try using Narrator or Magnifier (or both) to help you find it.  E.g. press Backtab twice and then Spacebar (assuming that lands on the Accessibility menu button.)

Hint: if you get into Narrator try Caps Lock + Enter and see what's supposed to be there.

And if you choose Magnifier you may have to check its tracking options to be sure that you have full control over what it can show you.

    Good luck

  • Apologies for the delay in my response. Unfortunately, neither the ctrl-alt-del suggestion, nor connecting another monitor (I tried both a monitor and my tv) worked for me. Any other suggestions?

  • J'ai trouver, il faut démarrer en mode sans échec ! Ordinateur démarrer, redémarrer le avec le bouton shift enfoncer, faite paramètre avancé, puis invite de commande. Après entrer la commande :

    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

Et quand votre ordi redémarre, appuyer sur F8 et faite démarrer en mode sans échec !
