Here’s Your Crash Course in the Cast of ‘BEEF’

Get acquainted with the main plot drivers in A24’s new road rage–fueled dark dramedy.

By Jessie Mooney April 3, 2023

Honk if you love revenge! Or just watch BEEF, the new dark comedy drama series that follows the aftermath of a road rage incident between two retribution-obsessed strangers: Danny Cho (Steven Yeun), a down-on-his-luck contractor with something to prove, and Amy Lau (Ali Wong), a self-made entrepreneur whose picture-perfect life looks less pretty up close.

As the feud (or “beef,” if you will) between them escalates, it threatens to destroy their careers, relationships and maybe even themselves. From renowned entertainment company A24 and creator slash showrunner Lee Sung Jin, this 10-episode narrative is full of humor, suspense, passion and moving storytelling about the importance of family — for better or worse.

Ahead of the series premiere on April 6, here’s a rundown (was that a driving pun?) of every BEEF character to care about — plus where you’ve seen the actors before and where to follow them on social media. Let’s roll, shall we? (Definitely a driving pun.)

Steven Yeun as Danny Cho in BEEF.

Andrew Cooper/Netflix

Danny Cho

STEVEN YEUN

Consider the plummeting bank account, lack of job prospects and younger brother he feels responsible for, and Danny has a lot on his plate — even without the beef. That’s not to mention his self-imposed life purpose of saving enough money to buy land to build his parents a SoCal dream home.

Before BEEF, Yeun earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance in the Golden Globe–winning film Minari and became the first Asian American to be nominated for best actor.

He also had supporting roles in Jordan Peele’s Nope, Stephen Karam’s The Humans, Boots Riley’s Sorry to Bother You, Joe Lynch’s Mayhem and Bong Joon-ho’s Okja, but many will remember him as Glenn from AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Meanwhile, his voice acting credits include Voltron: Legendary Defender and Netflix’s Tales of ArcadiaStretch Armstrong & the Flex Fighters and Tuca & Bertie

Ali Wong as Amy Lau in BEEF.

Andrew Cooper/Netflix

Amy Lau

ALI WONG

With a handsome husband, adorable daughter, newly renovated home and  multimillion-dollar sale of her company in the works —  plant entrepreneur (plantrepreneur?) Amy is all set to become a very rich, very content stay-at-home mom. In her mind, at least. All that’s left to do is close the deal — oh, and ruin Danny’s life.

You might recognize Wong from any one of her three Netflix stand-up specials: Baby Cobra (2016), Hard Knock Wife (2018) and Don Wong (2022). She also starred in and was the writer and producer of the 2019 Netflix rom-com Always Be My Maybe.

She had a supporting role in 2020’s Birds of Prey, was a cast member in ABC’s American Housewife and has made guest appearances in Inside Amy SchumerBlack Box and Are You There, Chelsea? She also appeared in Fresh Off the Boat, for which she was a writer for the first three seasons.

Wong has contributed her voice talents to animated series BoJack HorsemanBig MouthHuman Resources and Tuca & Bertie, in addition to films Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the UniverseRalph Breaks the InternetThe Lego Ninjago Movie and The Angry Birds Movie

Joseph Lee as George Nakai in BEEF.

Andrew Cooper/Netflix

George Nakai

JOSEPH LEE

As a sculptor turned stay-at-home dad with the physique of a biker and the zen of a Buddhist monk, George seems the perfect trophy husband to wife Amy. But as with his custom vases, there’s more going on there than a shiny exterior, and it often goes unnoticed.

Lee made his film debut in Searching, which appeared in the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. He also starred in the short film Raspberry and TV series Star Trek: PicardMiracle That We MetRizzoli & Isles and NCIS: Los Angeles. Fun fact: Like his character George, Lee is an artist.

Young Mazino as Paul Cho in BEEF.

Andrew Cooper/Netflix

Paul Cho

YOUNG MAZINO

In the midst of a quarter-life crisis, Paul divides his time between gaming, crypto investing, pumping iron and avoiding his older bro, Danny, as much as possible. Fed up with his “family of losers,” the youngest Cho distances himself at every opportunity.

Mazino originally trained as a musician before committing to acting around 2014. Check out his guest spots on TV’s BlindspotNew AmsterdamTommyBlue Bloods and Prodigal Son.

David Choe as Isaac Cho in BEEF.

Andrew Cooper/Netflix

Isaac Cho

DAVID CHOE

Freshly released from prison, Isaac is Danny and Paul’s fun-but-sketchy cousin. Isaac maintains he was just a misunderstood middleman in the crimes that resulted in his lock-up, but regardless, his involvement resulted in Danny and Paul’s parents losing the motel they owned and operated. Generous relative? Untrustworthy opportunist? A little of both? We’ll see…

Choe has starred in his own titular show, aptly named The Choe Show, and appeared in episodes of FX’s Better Things and The Mandalorian on Disney+.

Patti Yasutake as Fumi Nakai in BEEF.

Andrew Cooper/Netflix

Fumi Nakai

PATTI YASUTAKE

Fumi is George’s mom, June’s grandma and Amy’s passive aggressive mother-in-law (who’s a little light on the “passive”). The widow of a famous artist, Fumi hopes June will follow a similar career path and worries her son may be wasting his own artistic potential as his work takes a back seat to his caregiver responsibilities.

Yasutake is best known for her portrayal of Nurse Alyssa Ogawa in the 1987 TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation, and went on to reprise the role for the films Star Trek: Generations and Star Trek: First Contact. She also appeared as Mrs. Howard in the cult classic Drop Dead Gorgeous. Additional television credits include Pretty Little LiarsNCIS: Los AngelesThe Closer, The Young and the RestlessBonesGrey’s Anatomy and Cold Case — just to name a few.

Maria Bello as Jordan Forster in BEEF.

Andrew Cooper/Netflix

Jordan Forster

MARIA BELLO

An unfathomably wealthy woman who’s used to getting what she wants, Jordan has the big boss title over at Forsters, the home improvement store looking to buy Amy’s plant company, Kōyōhaus. With a proclivity for bullying and cultural appropriation, she’s also (unfortunately) the one who will decide whether or not Amy’s deal goes through.

You may know Bello from films such as A History of ViolenceCoyote UglyThe CoolerLights OutGrown UpsFlicka and Thank You for Smoking, or TV series like NCISLaw & Order: SVUGoliathTouchER and the original Mr. and Mrs. Smith

You can follow Bello on Instagram and Twitter.

Ashley Park as Naomi Forster in BEEF.

Andrew Cooper/Netflix

Naomi Forster

ASHLEY PARK

Jordan’s sister-in-law, Naomi, is a stay-at-home mom, and Amy envies her situation. But while Naomi presents as every bit the stylish and glamorous homemaker, she’s lonely — and struggles with FOMO and insecurity as a result of her choices.

Park is probably most easily recognized for her current role as Mindy in Netflix’s Emily in Paris or as the original Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls on Broadway. Her theater work has been extensive, including Mamma Mia!, the Tony Award–winning revival of The King and I and a run of Sunday in the Park with George alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. Some more of her TV titles include Only Murders in the BuildingMr. Malcolm’s List and Girls5Eva. Look out for her this summer in the upcoming comedy film Joy Ride

Justin H. Min as Edwin in BEEF.

Andrew Cooper/Netflix

Edwin

JUSTIN H. MIN

The guy who ended up marrying Danny’s childhood sweetheart, Veronica (Alyssa Gihee Kim) — that’s Edwin. Now he and Veronica are expecting, but Edwin still comes across as jealous and threatened by Danny. Edwin also plays guitar for his church’s worship team and participates in their basketball league.

You can watch more of Min over on Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy.  He’s known for playing the titular role in After Yang and has had guest roles in New AmsterdamDating After College and CSI: Cyber. Just this year, he starred in Shortcomings, a comedy film directed and produced by Randall Park that premiered at Sundance back in January.

You can follow Min on Instagram and Twitter.

Mia Serafino as Mia in BEEF.

Andrew Cooper/Netflix

Mia

MIA SERAFINO

Amy’s sycophantic employee, Mia, constantly expresses admiration for the artistic genius of her boss and George’s whole family. Mia went to school for art herself and worries what Amy’s impending sale of Kōyōhaus will mean for her own career’s future.

Serafino’s past TV spots include ShamelessiCarlyCrowdedNCIS: Los Angeles, Franklin & Bash and Undateable. She also had supporting film roles in Zeroville and Saving Mr. Banks

You can follow Serafino on Instagram and Twitter.

Remy Holt as June in BEEF.

Andrew Cooper/Netflix

June Nakai

REMY HOLT

Equal parts precious and precocious, June is the only child of Amy and George. She loves art, candy and spending time with her parents. (We told you she was precious.)

Holt started modeling at age 3, and BEEF was her theatrical debut. You can catch her as Madelyn Davis in1923, an American Western drama series on Paramount Plus.

Andrew Santino as Michael in BEEF.

ANDREW SANTINO

Michael is one of Isaac’s cronies, always looking out for the next money-making scheme. He resents that Isaac considers himself the alpha of their group and is full of random trivia.

Santino is a longtime stand-up comedian and played one on the TV series I’m Dying Up Here. Other credits include This Is UsCurb Your EnthusiasmGame Over, Man!Me TimeThe Disaster ArtistMixologySin City Saints and Dave, which tells the fictionalized story of rapper Lil Dicky. In 2017, he released the Showtime special Home Field Advantage. REK LEE aka REKSTIZZY

Isaac’s other main minion is the bespectacled Bobby, who can’t let go of the fact that he got into some good colleges back in the day. Bobby feels similarly to Michael about the Isaac situation and is willing to take risks if money is involved.

Lee was featured in the 2016 documentary Bad Rap, which follows the lives of four Korean American hip-hop artists, including Dumbfoundead, Awkwafina and Lyricks. He voiced Rap Bear on an episode of Adventure Time, too.
