MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN talk show "The Bottomline with Boy Abunda" and actress Angel Aquino have been nominated in the 2011 Asian TV Awards (ATA).

The nominations shortlist was released Thursday on the ATA 2011 website.

"The Bottomline with Boy Abunda" is vying for the Best Talk Show award alongside shows from Hong Kong, India, Malaysia and Singapore.

The current affairs show features one-on-one interviews by host Boy Abunda with personalities from politics to entertainment. It also uses questions contributed by a panel of "bottomliners."

Meanwhile, Aquino's antagonist role, model and designer Vera Cruz in defunct ABS-CBN series "Magkaribal" (Rivals in the ATA list), has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Other nominees include actresses from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

"Magkaribal," top billed by Bea Alonzo and Gretchen Barretto, was also a finalist in the 2011 New York Festivals TV and Film Awards.

Filipino talents, stories

All in all, seven entries from Filipino broadcasting companies received a nod this year among the 224 nominations from 13 countries.

Other Filipino talents and stories also figured in the shortlist, like Singapore-based journalist Rico Hizon as Best News Presenter for his BBC World News program.

A documentary on the Vizconde massacre case produced by local production company Unlimited Productions for the Crime and Investigation Network channel was also nominated as Best Infotainment Program.

The ATA winners will be announced at a gala in Singapore on December 8.

Now on its 16th year, the ATA is considered the region's foremost industry event for recognizing excellent works in television programming, production and performance.

ABS-CBN newscast "Bandila" won Best News Program in 2007 for its coverage of the Subic rape case.

Last year, ABS-CBN drama series "Dahil May Isang Ikaw" gained a nomination.
