After 10 donations you receive a silver pin, after twenty a gold pin, after 50 donations they award the gold drop and after 100 donations the porcelain pelican is presented. Castleisland has a strong and well established tradition of blood donation and several locals have been decorated for their service over the years.

There are 1.2 million people in Ireland who can give blood but have never done so. It is the case that one out of every four of us reading this will need a blood transfusion at some point in our lives. When and if our time comes we would expect blood to be available for our needs.
