Biography

A major figure in French field hockey, Georges Corbel débuted in the national team at age 18 in 1960, eventually earning 82 caps through 1974. He would compete in two Olympics, while being a non-playing reserve in 1960. In the national league, Corbel played for Bordeaux SAVP and, notably, FC Lyon Henri Cochet (FCLHC) - named after tennis player Henri Cochet. For the latter club, he uniquely won ten consecutive league titles, 1968-1977. He subsequently coached the French national junior team and the national team (1978-1981). The then became a director at the French field hockey federation, eventually serving as the body's president 1994-96. The stadium of FCLHC that was opened in 2006 carries Corbel's name.
