As dark as the Resident Evil 4 remake can be, it still offers a few ways for players to have some lighthearted fun, including customizing the two protagonists' outfits. Just like in the original version, it's possible to unlock alternate costumes for Leon and Ashley alike, switching up their default choices of clothing and replacing them with fresh, new looks. In order to obtain alternate costumes in the RE4 remake, players will need to purchase them with CP after completing their first playthrough - but in the end, it's well worth the effort to attain these fun and refreshing get-ups.

Leon and Ashley's alternate costumes in the Resident Evil 4 remake aren't the only ways in which players can show off their style. As well as adding charms from the shooting gallery to weapons, Leon and Ashely can adorn themselves choosing from numerous accessories in the Extras tab. Between sporty sunglasses, surgical masks, and even cat ears, the president's daughter and the government operative can end up looking either well-prepared or absolutely ridiculous. Just like unlocking alternate outfits for Ashley and Leon in the RE4 remake, these will require completing the game at least once, but those looking for complete makeovers may be more interested in some of the reimagined costume changes.

8 Jacket Leon And Ashley

The cold, rainy atmosphere of the rural Spanish town prompts dressing appropriately for the weather, and players can cozy up appropriately by equipping the Jacket costume in the Resident Evil 4 remake, which is available for Ashley and Leon alike. While both characters kick off the game's events wearing extra layers, they'll eventually drop them, with Leon losing his stylish, fur-lined leather coat in Chapter 1, and Ashley ditching her own orange blazer and delicate red scarf during Chapter 16. However, by utilizing the Jacket costume, it's possible to keep both characters warm throughout the length of the title.

7 Jacketless Leon And Ashley

On the other hand, the Jacketless costume allows the protagonists to let loose a little. In these RE4 remake alternative outfits, Leon will solely wear his black shirt, revealing the tactical gear underneath his jacket, and Ashley will don her sleeveless golden turtleneck prior to the game's finale. Although it's a minor change from the default setting (especially for the former), it makes sense in the Resident Evil 4 remake's updated story, as both characters could realistically benefit from the additional range of motion as they try to dodge hostile villagers, cultists, and other biological monstrosities.

6 Casual Leon And Ashley

The game's events take place during 2004, which explains Leon and Ashley's Casual costumes in the RE4 remake. In this look, the president's daughter abandons her preppy outfit for one that screams "emo child" instead - wearing patterned stockings, an abundance of colorful accessories, dark smokey makeup, and a choppy pixie cut with dyed bangs.

Leon's costume is a bit less intense, as he simply wears jeans, black sneakers, and a blue windbreaker decorated with patches. These alternate costumes may seem a bit out of place, especially for Ashley, but they can certainly brighten up the title's often dreary environment.

5 Hero Leon

As a special agent working under the orders of the president, Leon's primary mission is to save Ashley from the Los Iluminados, which makes his alternate Hero costume in the Resident Evil 4 remake especially fitting. This optional appearance has the former Raccoon City police officer looking a bit more old-fashioned than usual, as he's clad in a white, high-necked dress shirt, shiny leather armor, and an uncharacteristically short haircut. With his Hero outfit equipped, Leon looks awfully convincing while saving the damsel in distress.

4 Villain Leon

Conversely, Leon can also play the role of the bad guy - at least stylistically - with his Villain outfit. This alternate appearance in the RE4 remake is as dramatic as possible, fitting Leon in an almost entirely black outfit, smokey eye makeup, and long, dark hair that frames his face in even more shadow. The red gloves and scarf break it up somewhat, but they certainly don't distract from the collection of black feathers that adorn his jacket. Leon may be a bit of a melodramatic character, but with this look equipped, he can take it to an entirely new level.

3 Romantic Leon And Ashley

In the Resident Evil 4 remake, Leon and Ashley's Romantic costumes are perhaps the most immersive of the bunch. Both characters are dressed up in high-waisted slacks, striking silver hair, and frilly white smocks complete with intricate details. As their name might imply, they may be more on par with fashion from the Romantic period, but they blend in surprisingly well amidst Luis' own unique style and the rather outdated looks worn by Ganados. They may not stop Ashley and Leon from being spotted in the end, but the protagonists will certainly look the part as they explore updated Salazar's castle.

2 Pinstripe Leon

A render of Leon wearing his Pinstripe costume in the RE4 remake against a black and grey gradient background.

Resident Evil 4 remake's biggest changes set it far apart from the original version of the game, but thankfully, Leon's Pinstripe costume remains faithful to his special outfit from the older title. This get-up has him looking like a stereotypical 1920s mob boss, dressed accordingly in a pinstriped suit, classy red tie, black-and-white fedora, and a long white scarf draped across his shoulders. Leon is intimidating enough as is, but the Pinstripe costume somehow makes him look even more threatening with a gun in his hands, letting his foes know that he can take them out with both ease and style.

1 Knight Armor Ashley

Of course, the RE4 remake wouldn't be complete without Ashley's iconic Knight Armor costume. This outfit may not be the most stylish, as the clunky suit of armor makes her look less like the president's precious daughter and more like one of the game's Plaga-possessed knight statues. However, unlike other alternate appearances, Ashley's Knight Armor actually gives her a sizable advantage in combat, making her immune to attacks, kidnap attempts from enemies and even accidental area-of-effect damage from Leon. This look certainly places function over fashion, but it's still the best alternate costume in the Resident Evil 4 remake.
