Mathew Thomas and Naslen K Gafoor have gained a significant following in Kerala, even though they have only appeared in two Malayalam films together — Thanneer Mathan Dinangal (2019) and Jo and Jo (2022). However, the chemistry between the young actors has been one of the highlights in both the movies, and this has been a major factor in the popularity they have achieved.
Now, the two are gearing up for their third film together — Neymar, written and directed by debutant Sudhi Maddison.
As Neymar is set for release on May 12, its makers dropped the trailer of the film on Thursday, which promises a fun and thrilling ride that revolves around a dog.
The video starts off by showing two men (Shammi Thilakan and Johny Antony) enjoying a couple of drinks near their house at night while wondering what the former’s kids (Mathew Thomas and Naslen K Gafoor), standing a few metres away from them, were secretly planning so late. “Must be hatching a plan to screw their father over,” one tells the other.
The trailer immediately cuts to their day-to-day lives, Mathew’s various efforts to win a girl over and how Naslen helps him at every juncture. “Every girl with a dog will have a soft corner for other dogs. They will definitely stop for a moment to pet as soon as they see another dog. They would want to show affection to that dog. Slowly that affection will move towards the person who owns the dog,” Naslen advises Mathew. They soon get an indie dog whom they name Neymar.
The tone of the trailer immediately shifts when Mathew comes across news regarding the ‘Kuruva’ gang, the notorious band of Tamil Nadu-based robbers terrorising Kerala. We are soon shown that Neymar has been abducted by the members of ‘Kuruva’ gang and that Naslen and Mathew have set out to Tamil Nadu to rescue their dog.
Also starring Vijayaraghavan, Maniyan Pilla Raju, Yog Japee, Baby Devanandha, Sajin Gopu, Rishikanth, Thushara Pillai, and Reshmi Boban, the film is produced by Padma Uday under the banner of V Cinemas International.
The songs in Neymar are composed by Shaan Rahman and written by Vinayak Sasikumar and Vishnu Edavan. Meanwhile, Gopi Sundar has produced the background score.
