East Bengal, Sreebhumi win big in IFA Women’s Shield
Kolkata: East Bengal FC and Sreebhumi Football Club won by handsome margins on the opening day of the inaugural IFA Women’s Shield. At Tehatta, East Bengal girls walloped Nadia DSA 8-0 on Thursday.
Both Tulsi Hembram (6th minute, 23, 61) and captain Mousumi Murmu (22, 41, 80) scored hat-tricks for East Bengal. Sushmita Bardhan (29) and Sulanjana Raul (71) were the other scorers.
At Krishnanagar, Sreebhumi blanked Mohammedan Sporting 6-0. Sarjida Khatun netted a hat-trick while Titili Sarkar (2 goals) and Sujata Mahato scored the other goals for Sribhumi.
In another development, the Indian Football Association is set to reintroduce promotion and relegation in the leagues.
ATKMB lose in NextGen Cup:
ATK Mohun Bagan ended their PL NextGen Cup campaign with a 0-4 loss to Reliance Foundation Young Champs in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. ATKMB were trailing 0-1 at halftime. This was the Kolkata side’s final match of the season. The team will now be called Mohun Bagan Super Giant from June 1.
In another match, Bengaluru FC beat Sudeva FC 2-1.
Wolverhampton Wanderers FC — with whom ATKMB played out a draw in the first match — will take on defending champions Stellenbosch FC in the final on Friday.
