Reputed sports club Howrah Union is set for a massive facelift, with a state-of-the-art multi-gym and its own official website getting unveiled at a gala ceremony at the club's Maidan tent last weekend.
The function was organised to announce Howrah Union's transformation into a high-tech modern club, to keep up with the times.
A number of popular Maidan figures featured at the function, where a clutch of Under-16 players from the Russi Mody Football Academy were felicitated for their title-winning efforts in the Mir Iqbal Hussain National Championship at Uttaranchal.
The Under-16 players who were feted are Robin Seal, Sujoy Das, Alamgir and Andrew Verma.
Among the guests were Maidan stalwarts PK Banerjee and Gurbax Singh. Also present were former chief minister Siddhartha Shankar Ray, Sukumar Samajpati and Howrah Union club president Russi Mody.
The guest list included the club's general secretary Indranath Dey, IFA chief SB Ganguli, Samar Banerjee, Shibaji Das Gupta and Samir Dutta.
