ANC NEC members announced
The ANC has elected its new National Executive Committee members at the Mangaung conference.
MANGAUNG - The ANC on Thursday announced members to serve on its National Executive Committee (NEC).
Electoral commissioner Thobile Thomas read out the names of the candidates at the Mangaung conference in Bloemfontein.
He started the announcement by reading the names of those who received the most votes.
"The elected members of the NEC are Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Malusi Gigaba and Lindiwe Sisulu."
Dlamini-Zuma received the most votes.
Also on that list were Zizi Kodwa, Pravin Gordhan, Tito Mboweni, Rob Davies, Sdumo Dlamini, Tina Joemat-Pettersson, Tony Yengeni and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
Madikizela-Mandela, who was number one at the ANC's 2007 elective conference in Polokwane, was second-last on the list.
Controversial former national police commissioner Bheki Cele and disgraced former Gauteng Housing MEC Humphrey Mmemezi were also elected to the NEC.
South African Communist Party (SACP) secretary general Blade Nzimande also made the cut.
The announcement was made to loud cheers in the main plenary hall.
It was a clean sweep for the Zuma faction with notable "pro-change" names being excluded from the NEC.
Fikile Mbalula, Tokyo Sexwale, Mathews Phosa and Paul Mashatile were not elected to the body.
High-profile politicians that declined their nominations include Kgalema Motlanthe, Trevor Manuel and Jeremy Cronin.
The ANC also instituted a 50-50 gender parity ruling on the election of the NEC.
As soon as the electoral commissioner finished reading the list, the hall erupted into a "Zumantashe" song in support of the NEC.
