Devolution in Context: Regional, Federal & Devolved Government in the Member States of the European Union

This text is intended to present a clear analysis of local government in the 15 member states of the EU, and to assess the impact or potential impact of regional governments on policy-making in Europe. The focus of the study is explicitly institutional: it is not a classic legal textbook but lies firmly in the socio-legal approach to comparative public law. For this reason it draws on a number of disciplines including political science, history, philosophy, and economics to place the regional institutions in their true context.
