It’s official ! During a press conference on June 26, the mayor of Cannes David Lisnard formalized the purchase of AS Cannes by Dan Friedkin. It is the son of the latter, Ryan Friedkin, who takes the head of the club.

There was a time when AS Cannes was the flagship of France for its training center and big names in football are associated with the club.

And after many rumors, it’s done and the club enters a new era. The mayor of Cannes David Lisnard and Anny Courtade, president of the club for 4 years made the announcement. It is therefore an American producer Dan Friedkin who takes control of the Dragons and who was selected out of around sixty entries.
With Ryan Friedkin at the head of the club, the club is therefore aiming for a return to Ligue 2 within five years.
Dan Friedkin is no stranger. The 56-year-old Californian, who made his fortune in the automobile, is already the owner of the Italian club AS Roma bought for the sum of 600 million euros two years ago.

But in Cannes, it is on the steps of the Palais des Festivals that he is a regular. It was he who produced the Palme d’Or at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, Ruben Ostlünd’s feature film “Triangle of Sadness”. Ditto in 2017, with the Palme d’Or for Clint Eastwood’s film “The Mule”.

AS Cannes currently plays in national 3. To raise the club to the highest level and therefore regain professional status, there is still a long way to go. The club has not known Ligue 1 since 1998, when it was relegated to D2 and then to National in 2001.
In 2011, the DNCG demoted the club from National to CFA. In 2014, the loss of professional status following major financial difficulties did not help matters. A descent into hell, before a recovery in hand.
Our project is very serious for AS Cannes. We have high sporting ambitions: we want to set up a competitive team at the height of the city.
THE American group Friedkin buys 98% of the club’s shares, Ryan Friedkin is the new president of SAS Cannes football Pro which will manage the National 2 team. Anny Courtade still holds 2% of the club’s shares and she chairs the sports association Football canes. She will manage the women’s team and the club’s 47 other amateur teams.
The entire club participated through its unwavering support in the success of this human adventure, which we can be proud of having been able to arouse the interest of 74 potential investors!
