Highlights with USA National Team: one of the world's best serve receivers had 15 kills in upset win over Brazil in World Championship pool play (10-1-94) extremely intense and leads by example with Ctvrtlik in lineup, Team USA went 18-1 from time of his return up to World Super Four elected team captain in July-1994, succeeding Bryan Ivie named 1994 and (w/Ivie) 1995 team MVP nominated for 1994 USOC Player of the Year honors registered 122 kills, 12 blocks and five service aces in eight '92 Olympic matches, and named best serve receiver led team with 23 kills in win over Italy as youngest member of starting lineup (25), started all seven matches at '88 Olympics and compiled 101 kills, 22 blocks, 98 digs and a team-high 319 serve receptions tallied 25 kills in gold-medal match vs. USSR named outstanding passer at '88 Olympics and World Super Four won '88 Players Award for representing the team both on and off the court, as well as '89 USOC Male Volleyball Player of the Year Award named top passer and to all-tournament team at '87 Savvin Cup in USSR named outstanding serve receiver at '86 Japan Cup and outstanding defensive player at '86 World Championship captured 1986 and 1988 Players Award, as well as 1989 team most valuable player honors originally played on USA national team from summer-1985 through fall-1989
Other Volleyball Achievements: was teamed with Scott Fortune with Brescia played for runner-up Team Champion during 1994 Bud Light four-man beach season, leading team with 574 kills (tied for second among league leaders) member of Mediolanum Gonzaga in Milan, Italy (1989-91) with Mediolanum in '91-92, was coached by Doug Beal (1984 U.S. Olympic men's head coach) and teamed with Jeff Stork.
College/High School: named NCAA Final Four most valuable player and Volleyball Monthly player of the year (1985) coached at Pepperdine by Marv Dunphy came to Pepperdine after playing at Long Beach State (1983) and Long Beach City College (1982) also garnered honorable mention All-America accolades at LBSU began volleyball career at Long Beach City College a 1981 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach twice named all-league in basketball and tennis member of gold-medal-winning West squad at 1982 USOF, with fellow '88 Olympians Troy Tanner and Jon Root claimed first-team USVBA All-America recognition at '86 U.S. Open.
Personal: earned bachelor's degree in business administration from Pepperdine in 1985 member of Dean's List at LBSU and Pepperdine married in July, 1991 (wife's name, Cosette) and have one son (Josef Jan) worked for Coldwell Banker through Olympic Job Opportunities Program honored by Long Beach Century Club as 1988 Athlete of the Year worked security at '84 Olympics at Long Beach Arena (volleyball venue).
