It is clear that the author had an agenda and that agenda was to control the legend which he clearly feels is out of control. As for the appearance of Akhenaten the author refers to the physical appearance of his subject numerous times as hideous, grotesque, etc. In an effort to justify his harsh and ignorant rants he fosters the claim that the Pharoah must have suffered from some "then unknown," ailment. Nothing supports any of the slanderous claims made by the researchers, Egyptologists and historical revisionists. What Akhenaten suffered from was the same ailment King Tut and most of the other Egyptian Pharoah's were saddled with and it is unofficially known as Nubianism. There is no known cure for this curious illness which has struck fear in the hearts of mindless curators, Egyptologists and historians for centuries. It is rumored to have been around since the dawn of time despite the best efforts to suppress its rapid spread. If you have alot of patience and genuinely love the subject than you might find this title worthy of purchase but yourself a favor and pick it up from the bargain bin...

The idea of scrapping the Worshipping of all the other Gods only to worship the Sun as a single Diety.
To the Egyptians at the time, this was unthinkable. After he died, many tried to erase him and his ideas from hisotry. And yet his legacy lives on.
This book goes through in detail all the evidence that was discovered about him, and then it talks about the tombs in the Capital he tried to build, Amarna. It talks about the mysteries surrounding Akhenaten.
This book gives us lists of names of the Pharoahs, their wives, and who ruled when. This made understanding who did what when much easier. There are dates we can always refer back to.
Although the biography of the King himself is vague and not as fully detailed as one might hope, this book explains the hsitorical context very well.
It covers Egypt's foreign policy regarding its relations with the Hittites, the Assyrians and even Alashiya (Cyprus).
It also covers home affairs. This way it builds a picture which enables us to imagine the sort of place Egypt was when Amenophis IV (aka Amenhotep IV) ascended the throne.
At the time, the kingdom of Egypt was divided into north and south, however Akhenaten attempted to unify the kingdom by building a whole new capital city in the middle of it called Amarna, where he moved his entire family. This is where you find a lot of tombs referenced in the book with all the names of his family members, and the evidence for their tombs.
The plates include wall paintings, diagrams, maps, and photographs.
Throughout the book, there are references to these images which help explain things really well.
It feels like a journal. It gives you the feeling that you are at the location of where Akhenaten lived and was buried.
This book has lots of useful information.
My only problem with this book however is that it gives very vague reasons why he despised the pagan practices and why he rejected the other Gods. This would have been the key to understanding why he did what he did.
However, this is still the best book on the subject.
