LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- After a record setting year for the Calgary Roughnecks, former Bellarmine lacrosse standout Shawn Evans was named the National Lacrosse League's Most Valuable Player last week.

In his second year with the club, the Peterborough, Ontario native guided the NLL's top ranked offense by capturing the league's individual scoring crown, exploding for 112 points, fifth most in the league's history. Evans led the league with 80 assists while adding 32 goals of his own, including on 12 power plays.

The right-handed forward had five double-digit point games this year, highlighted by a franchise record 13 (4 Gs, 9 Asts) in a Week 4 victory over the Colorado Mammoth. His nine assists in that matchup also tied a franchise mark, which Evans later duplicated in a 17-16 shootout win against the Minnesota Swarm.

Evans only suited up for the Knights for one year, the inaugural season in 2005, but still left his mark on the program. His 52 goals and 75 points that year rank second in program history, only putting him behind teammate Garett Kikot.

Evans was then drafted in the 1st round, 2nd overall in the 2005 NLL Draft by the Rochester Knighthawks. He played six years for Rochester before being traded to Calgary on the night of the 2011 NLL Draft. The move was a successful one for Evans as he has set career highs in goals and assists in both season with the Roughnecks, earning NLL All-Pro honors in 2012 and 2013.
