WARSAW — Poland’s opposition parties look like they’ve won a solid victory in the country’s general election, according to an exit poll released immediately after voting ended at 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Although Law and Justice is the largest party, three leading opposition parties would have a majority of seats in the 460-member parliament.

If the result holds when the ballots are counted, it would mark a drastic change in Poland after eight years of rule by the nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party that saw relations with the European Union sour thanks to government efforts to put the judicial system and media under tighter political control.

The exit poll has PiS as the largest party, with 36.8 percent of the vote, followed by the centrist Civic Coalition with 31.6 percent, the center-right Third Way with 13 percent, the Left with 8.6 percent and the far-right Confederation with 6.2 percent.

The poll was conducted by IPSOS and was shared with Poland’s three main television networks. The poll has a 2 percent margin of error.
