- Изменено 12 лет назадThis is the best ambient/downtempo album the world has never heard! It is because it was only released in Russia, and it was a limited pressing. Unlike some famous Russian electronic artists, such as Fuzzarum, EU and others, Gosti are not known outside Russia AT ALL.
Musically, this fantastic album stands above most well-known international ambient releases, such as Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works I or II", any of The Orb albums and many others. It is as beautiful as Global Communications' "76:14" and "Pentamerous Metamorphosis". Production level is just ASTONISHING by Russian standards, especially for year 1996, when the album was written and produced. If this album was more well-known, it would definitely be one of the 'Top 10 Ambient Albums Of All Times'.
As it was mentioned above, this album was originally written, produced and released in 1996 on cassette, but back then it was even less popular than it is now. In 1998, the band have decided to change their music style and they started producing pop music - and it was downhill since then. Although, their first two albums as pop artists were quite good, in 2001/2002 their sound became shamefully commercial and that's when they have gained even more popularity. And that's the reason this album was re-released on CD.
It's crystal clear that the main problem with this album is that it was released in Russia, where most people don't understand and usually ignore quality music. Whereas I'm happy that it will remain one of my few 'personal moments', I think it's a shame this gorgeous album is unlikely to find its way to the people who would aprreciate it more than Russians...
