Yes, that's right: Nintendo's main mascots, Donkey Kong and Mario, both turn the ripe old age of 25 this month. In August 1981, Nintendo of America put the first Donkey Kong arcade machine into a Seattle bar called The Spot Tavern.

To commemorate this auspicious occasion, I teamed up with 1up.com to create a big ol' feature all about Donkey Kong. It's not a history of the series, though, so much as it is an article about the original game -- the controversy that surrounded it, the heights of its popularity, and how it changed both Nintendo and the medium of the video game forever.

I went all out on this one, so do go and check it out. There's even a link to a commercial for Donkey Kong breakfast cereal! The one thing I forgot to add was a video of the hit* single Do The Donkey Kong. Luckily, Press The Buttons found one.
