FORT WORTH, Texas -- American announced plans to significantly
scale back flights from its St. Louis hub in favor of
"strengthening" its hubs at Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth.
American said effective Nov. 1 it will slash the number of St.
Louis daily departures from 417 to 207.
The airline also said it will close its St. Louis reservations
office Sept. 15. American acquired the St. Louis hub in March 2001
when it purchased TWA's assets for $745 million.
AMR president and CEO Gerard Arpey said the decisions affecting
St. Louis were "extremely difficult but vital to American's
future," adding he "truly regretted" the impact this will have on
former TWA employees.
