Alien species concepts that became part of the SW universe
During the production of the movies some designs were rejected and weren't used in the final movie. But some concepts were reused in the SW universe and were given a proper name and origin. These are the ones you'll find here. Decipher put some of these guys on CCG cards and still some people actually believe they can be seen in the movies... Don't look for these aliens in the movies, because they aren't there!

There are also a lot of creature designs that became an official part of the universe, but this'll deal about species (mostly).

A New Hope
- Revwien: This alien was designed by Ron Cobb as a Cantina Alien. He got his species name from West End Games and was even created as a Miniature RPG Figure.
- Lasat: This lemure like species was designed by Ralph McQuarrie as an early Chewbacca. He got his species name from West End Games.

The Empire Strikes Back
- Cracian thumper: Was once a Tauntaun concept

Return of the Jedi
- Esoomian: This hulking creature was a concept for the Rancor. West End Games gave him his species name.
- Adarian (Hole in the Head): This guy was one of the miniatures in the 'RotJ' model shop, but was not build as an alien. West End Games gave him his species namen.
- Sic-Six: This insect was probably used on the set (his name can be found on callsheets). Simon Williamson (Max Rebo, Gamorrean Guards) told me he was about to play a weird creature with many eyes, so that could have been Sic-Six. Nevertheless, Sic-Six wasn't used in the final scenes.
Note that there are two Sic-Six versions:
1° West End Games gave the species a background and used this image
2° Decipher used the original Sic-Six model.
- Tefauan: This was another design that didn't make it into the movie. Their homeplanet is Tefau. One Tefauan was known as Soth Petikkin.
- Bron Burs: This was another design that didn't make it into the movie. His homeplanet in Nentan, known from the exploits of Major Derlin.
- Tocoyan: This was another design that didn't make it into the movie. They hail from Tocoya. One particular Tocoyan was Neb Dulo.
- Lobel: This is a creature, that was also created, but never used.
- Makurth: Were sapient predators from Moltok, the Ho'din homeworld.
- Vodranite: This species comes from the Vodran and Dianoga homeworld Vodran. They also have a Dianoga like eyestalk. One Vodranite was called Niado Duegad.
- Quockran: This design was once used for Jabba the Hutt. West End Games gave him his species name.
- 'Apple Slug': This was another miniature that was never expanded into a puppet. He is green and has multiple claws. He can be seen in the 'The best from the LFL Archives'-book.
- Dyslogia Twang: Got her name in the HoloNet feature. Species is unknown.
- Po Ruddle Lingsnot: This councilman of Bespin's Cloud City was once a design for Bib Fortuna. Got his name in 'Monsters & Aliens from George Lucas' and was expanded in the Illustrated SW universe. Species is unknown.
Nilo the Rodisar: Was once a Gamorrean design

The Phantom Menace
- Poldt: This thin alien was supposed to quarrel with Jar Jar during the podrace. This individual was called Fanta and belonged to the Poldt species.
- Toy Dampner: This was a podracer that didn't make it in the movie. He appeared in the 'Racer I'-game and hails from New Cov. Species unknown.
- Paramita: Slide Paramita was a podracer that didn't make it in the movie.
- Bullseye Navior: Used in the 'Racer I' game.
- Sang: Fud Sang was used in the 'Racer I' game.

- Dud Cullindaros: His name was replaced by Ben Quadinaros.
- Ody Mysturall: His name was replaced by Ody Mandrell.
- Xelbree: This was a podracer that didn't make it in the movie.
- Bozzie Barada: This was a podracer that didn't make it in the movie. Species unknown.

Attack of the Clones
- Geonosians: Started their life as an design of the Neimoidians that couldn't been used when Lucas decided the Neimoidians weren't going to be CG aliens.

Unknown:
- A female flower like alien 'RotJ' (picture in Chronicles)
- An alien who looks like the guys from 'Close Encounters' (picture in Chronicles)
- A design used for a Skiff Guard. Looks like a cross between an elephant and a tapir (picture in The Art of RotJ)
- A monkey like creature used as Jabba's slave (picture in the Art of TPM)
- Lemur like creatures were developed for 'RotS' but never used.
- Drake rides an as-yet unnamed creature concept in the 'Reversal of Fortune' webstrip.
- Unnamed species of Puggles Trodd (Lasat art was changed in reprint).
- Mustafar creature in 'Trials of Obi-Wan'

If you know more designs of characters and species that have found their way into the SW universe, please let me know!
