How To Install Mono on Linux Mint 20

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install Mono on Linux Mint 20. For those of you who didn’t know, Mono is a free, open-source development platform based on the .NET Framework. It helps the developers to build efficient and reliable applications that can run on multiple platforms.

Prerequisites

Install Mono on Linux Mint 20 Ulyana

Step 1. Before running the tutorial below, it’s important to make sure your system is up to date by running the following apt commands in the terminal:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install dirmngr gnupg apt-transport-https ca-certificates

Step 2. Installing Mono on Linux Mint 20.

By default, Mono Framework is not available on the Linux Mint 20 base repository. Now we add Mono repository to your Linux Mint system:

sudo sh -c 'echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.mono-project.com/repo/ubuntu stable-focal main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mono-official-stable.list'

Next. import the GPG key:

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 3FA7E0328081BFF6A14DA29AA6A19B38D3D831EF

After that, update your repository and install them:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install mono-complete

If you want to build your projects through the IDE development method then, use the following command to install Mono:

sudo apt install monodevelop

Verify Mono installation and check the installed version:

mono --version
