It's a challenge to have a comic about a character who doesn't speak a translatable language. This comic dealt with that problem wonderfully. The dialogue worked out well. Even in the many panels without word bubbles, the artwork did an excellent job of conveying emotion to the reader. I like Phil Noto's Star Wars illustrations and look forward to seeing his work in more Star Wars comics to come.

The story is pretty basic. Chewbacca crash lands and finds himself in the middle of a local rebellion. My favorite parts of this comic were the small things. I enjoyed seeing prequel era alien species in an original trilogy setting. There are flashbacks of Chewbacca's life that I wish were fledged out more. That's the Chewbacca comic I want. We see a glimpse of his family. Is that Lumpy becoming canon? There are flashbacks to enslavement on Kashyyyk. I hope Chuck Wendig's second Aftermath novel, Life Debt picks up some of that story.

The spirit of Chewie is definitely captured int his comic. I loved seeing him gambling. Without Han by his side, he seems unwhole. The reference to the medal ceremony was great.

This comic was a cool story, but I wish it had been more consequential to either Chewbacca's life or the greater galaxy. I enjoyed the peaks into Chewie's past and his family. I'd love to see more miniseries from Marvel that feel like they matter more than this one. I give this graphic novel a 4/5.

Noto's art is good, but that's about where the praise ends. Chewbacca reads as a completely phoned in project every other way. No meaningful characterization happens for Chewy, or his plucky girl companion, nor is there any meaningful expansion on the Star Wars universe or mythos. Instead, this trade includes an empty, five issue story, that could have been condensed into a single well paced issue. The book drags, absent of any humor, twists, or intrigue. Chewy's dialogue made me laugh the first time I saw one of his ridiculous speech bubbles, but the gag wore thin quick, as his lack of speech actually killed the momentum of the story, making basic action sequences and motivations difficult to understand and work with.

This book is not an atrocity of bad writing, but is totally forgettable, and unfortunately, a waste of time for even the most Star Wars faithful. Unless you're a big Noto fan I guess.

This was a decent enough story. It was fun to see Chewbacca in his own adventure but only a little bit of major importance to the saga occurred. The artwork was amazing and the story was well-written I just wasn't completely invested in the characters. I don't say this in a bad way but this is for completists only.

Also, many pages are filled with panels of Chewie's roars and reactions which can be fun for us to interpret but it meant that I finished this entire comic in about an hour.

This book is a delight. It's truly one of the best comic experiences I've ever had. I thought Lando was a good book. This one is so well written, it just make me smile thinking about it.

The book features a character--a little girl. I'd say she's about 12 or 13. She's a bit of a tomboy. And, she won't stop talking. And...her dad has been rookie-doo'ed by a local crime lord. And, she needs some help. And...this little girl will steal your heart. Especially, if you've got kids of your own.

Picture Tasslehoff Burrfoot, but in the Star Wars universe, and as a human girl pre-teen, and you've got the idea.

Then, throw in the Chewbacca's presentation. I thought we'd see what he was actually saying, but no. The Wookiee is portrayed just as you see him in the movies, with growls and whines. Yet, we still understand what he says.

This one will be a classic, I have no doubt.

The 'opening scroll' of the comic refers to Han Solo as Chewie's 'trusty sidekick.' It was like love at first sight. I knew this was gonna be good.

Chewbacca's one of my favorite Star Wars characters. In a sci-fi universe full of mysterious heroes and villains, I find that I know very little about Chewie and I'm absolutely okay with that. This comic doesn't seek to give Chewie more backstory or fill you in on things you didn't know--the mission of the Chewbacca comic is simply to have some fun with a favorite supporting character thrust into the lead role.

The story here has a feisty little girl appealing to Chewbacca's good nature and securing his help to free slaves from a mining complex. There's a good deal of action and humor. The story's slight but it's fun. Some wonderful art coupled with smart writing and a likable new female lead make this one of the best Star Wars comics I've had the pleasure to read.

If you think that Episode 1 was right and Star Wars was missing a precocious kid to lead the story, then you will love this Trade. Unfortunately I don't agree. The book has a few good things going for it, you get a little more about Chewbacca's background, and it is cannon so if you want to be a completionist they you need to read it. My two favorite things about this whole book, are a crazy paranoid droid guy, and the best use ever of a Gonk droid. So check it out if you like a book where you can only understand half the dialog. That only works for comic book characters who are made of wood.
