Becoming A Yoga Teacher

British Wheel of Yoga Training offers Ofqual-regulated, Level 4 yoga teacher training qualifications that are on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).  These qualifications are overseen and quality-assured by the external Awarding Organisation British Wheel of Yoga Qualifications (BWYQ).

If you are looking for a yoga teacher training qualification that is recognised throughout the UK education system, by schools, colleges, universities and employers, then you have come to the right place!

BWYQ qualifications are regulated by the Office for Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) and are bench marked to national educational standards. The regulated BWYQ Certificate and Diploma qualifications require level 4 attainment and are therefore equivalent to a HNC/ first year of a foundation Degree. This is the highest level of yoga teacher training currently available in the UK.

The BWYQ Certificate comprises 5 Units, and the BWYQ Diploma comprises these 5 Units plus an additional 3 Units. It is possible for Certificate holders to achieve the Diploma units at a later date. Whether you choose a Certificate or Diploma, at the end of the course you will be a fully qualified Yoga Teacher.

BWYT is also piloting a non-regulated 300 hour course comprised of 6 units and a non-regulated  500 hour course with 9 units. These unregulated BWYT courses are not on the RQF and do not receive the Level 4 BWYQ qualification.  They are being piloted as a way to provide more options for the diversity of people who are considering training to become a yoga teacher.

Whichever type course you choose from the dropdown menu above or the links below, you can be confident of first-class training in all the practical and ethical aspects of being a skilled and highly-qualified yoga teacher.

Our courses include how to teach a wide range of yoga postures, anatomy and physiology, yoga philosophy, breathing practices, mindfulness, meditation and relaxation.

Significant time is devoted to ‘how to teach’, supporting the professional practices required to make you an extraordinary teacher.

All BWYT teacher training courses are delivered by licensed BWYT Diploma Course Tutors (DCTs), who have undertaken a further two years of in-depth tutor-assessor training after completing a minimum of 5 years service as a fully-qualified BWYT teacher.

If you have any further questions regarding the courses please contact office@bwy.org.uk

Foundation Courses

We ask that potential students complete a Foundation course level 1 before going on to doing a Teacher training course as this gives a good grounding before they embark on their Teaching Journey.
