and Marketing Internship Opportunity
Save-the-Redwood League
Save-the-Redwood
League, a national non-profit dedicated to the preservation of ancient
forests, seeks a junior or senior level Bachelor's candidate in
English, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or Environmental
Science with excellent written and oral communication skills. This
is a paid position. Full and part-time, fall, spring and summer
internships are available based on your needs.
Projects
include: assisting with researching and drafting grant proposals
and reports; researching donors and prospects; working with development
staff on the major gifts and planned giving campaigns; assisting
in the redesign and consolidation of all League marketing materials
and the establishment and implementation of a marketing plan; writing
articles for newsletters and the annual report; assisting with the
design and layout of marketing materials; writing articles for the
web page; drafting and distributing press releases; undertaking
administrative duties. The position could also include: assisting
with event planning; maintaining the League web page; developing
and maintaining the League library.
The
internship provides the opportunity to work hands-on in the Development
and Marketing Department of a small, established non-profit. Casual
work environment, meaningful experience, flexible daytime schedule.
Conveniently located in downtown San Francisco. Knowledge of HTML,
Quark or Frontpage a plus.

Public Interest GRFX is a writing and design team whose clients
work for the common good, not their own greed. They include the
state Public Interest Research Groups (State PIRGs); the Sierra
Club; Green Corps; Massachusetts and New Jersey Community Water

Description
We are looking for smart, savvy, talented, political people with
writing and/or advertising training to fill the following position:
Political
Writer: We want people who don't think that "propaganda" is a bad
word. We'd like to see that you've read Strunk & White. You might
have reporting experience, but this isn't a reporting job. We're
writing slogans, headlines, newsletter copy and fundraising appeals
designed to move people to action. This position is based in Boston.
Salary & Benefits Compensation ranges from $17,000-$35,000, depending

PIRGs Budget Department Staff
Background
The State Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs) speak for the
public interest against the special interests, on issues in the
news and below the surface. As public interest watchdog organizations,
PIRGs uncover dangers to public health and well-being and fight
to end them, using the time-tested tools of investigative research,
media exposes, grassroots organizing, advocacy, and litigation.
They deliver consistent, results-oriented public interest activism
to achieve real change that improves the quality of our environment,
of our government, and, ultimately, of individual lives. The State
PIRG Budget Department provides budget planning, oversight, and
financial management services for the State PIRGs, the Fund for
Public Interest Research, and several PIRG affiliated organizations.
The Budget Department staff will develop business and financial
skills while contributing to the management of this dynamic group
of nonprofit public interest organizations.
Job
Description
Working with the financial department and the directors of State
PIRGs and related organizations, the Budget Department Staff will
assist the Budget Director in providing oversight of budgets, strategies
for planning budgets, and administrative assistance. Specific duties
will include: reviewing and processing annual budgets; preparing
worksheets and budget reports to assist in the budgeting process;
assisting directors with budget planning; tracking budgets throughout
the year; operating a LAN network utilizing sophisticated accounting
software; and participating as an enthusiastic member of the PIRG
community in support of the mission and goals of the advocacy program

Qualifications
Candidates must have facility working with numbers, attention to
detail, computer orientation, and interest in business management
issues in a nonprofit environment. Accounting background and extensive
computer experience are desirable but not required. Training is
provided.
Salary

Assistant
The Weeden Foundation
The
Weeden Foundation, an environmental philanthropy located in New
York City, is looking for an Administrative/Research Assistant (ARA).
The ARA is the primary support person for the Executive Director
and is responsible for office management, grant-related documentation,
and some program-related research.
The
Weeden Foundation’s mission is the conservation of biological diversity.
The Foundation makes approximately $2 million in grant awards annually
to non-profit environmental and population organizations located
in the United States, Latin America, and Asia. The Foundation has
two full time staff, the ARA and an Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
1. Administer and facilitate grantmaking process from proposal receipt
to grant disbursement including: (i) initial screening of proposals
for compliance with funding guidelines; (ii) executing variety of
correspondence with organizations requesting funding, especially
requests for additional information; (iii) entering detailed information
into grants database; (iv) creating board meeting dockets including
project descriptions in grants database; (v) sitting in on preliminary
docket reviews with Executive Director and President; (vi) writing
text for letters conveying meeting results; (vii) recording meeting
results in grants management database. 2. Collect reports from grantees
at the end of each grant period and prepare brief written compliance-based
evaluations from these materials; assist in production of other
reports as needed (including copying, collating, mailing). 3. Maintain
Web site which serves as the Foundation’s Annual Report. Write grant
descriptions after each Board meeting to be uploaded to the site.
4. Respond to phone inquiries concerning Foundation’s funding programs
& procedures and provide specific information in response to questions.
5. Oversee office accounts and ordering of supplies; serve as liaison
with office building management; maintain complex Foundation files
(proposals, organizations, financial, general). 6. Track Foundation
investments for the purpose of co-filing shareholder resolutions
& voting proxies. 7. Conduct periodic research and analysis projects,
as needed, in a variety of areas. 8. Provide financial reporting
information to Foundation bookkeeper, and perform occasional administrative/clerical
duties for Foundation’s President.
Minimum
Qualifications: College degree and strong interest in/knowledge
of environmental issues, particularly relating to conservation of
biological diversity. Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication
skills. Good organizational skills and an ability to juggle a variety
of tasks as befits a small office environment. Strong PC computer
skills, especially with WORD™ and EXCEL™, familiarity with QUICKEN™,
FRONTPAGE™ and DREAMWEAVER™ and a desire/ability to learn complex
grants management software (MicroEdgeGIFTS™). Easygoing manner,
energetic, good sense of humor, and a proven ability to work well
independently and with senior staff/Board.
