CVS is broken.

Just a heads up, don't bother getting the current CVS from sourceforge until further notice. It may or may not compile at any given moment because I am currently converting the accounts system to a database backend. So stick to the released files for now.

Compilation problems on older linux releases.

If you are using linux and get an error similar to the following:

In file included from uox3.h:71, from admin.cc:14:
scriptc.h: In method `ScriptEntry::ScriptEntry (const char *, unsigned int)':
scriptc.h:19: `strdup' undeclared (first use this function)
scriptc.h:19: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once for each function it appears in.)

then you will need to use gcc3. If that doesn't solve it for you, please let me know.

Welcome to our new developer.

I'd like to welcome sq to the UOX:NG team. He's already proved to be a valuable addition, and should really help turn uoxng into a quality emulator.

New release online.

Apparently I am a crackhead and forgot to do a make clean before I put the last release online. Somehow nobody seems to have noticed this, even though it wouldn't work as a result unless you happened to be using openbsd/sparc64. Well, its fixed now anyways.

License issues.

I had some concerns originally about licensing problems when I started this. So many people have contributed code, and none of their names were in it (except as random comments like morons). The original authors copyright was even gone. I put in a reasonable enough copyright notice, and made a file to start adding people's names to. If anyone reading this deserves their name in the list, please drop me a quick email or post in the forums.

Now, punt was talking on the uoxclassic forums about a license change that was made to uox way back when, and there was some concern that the change was not in uoxclassic. Obviously this would affect me, being a fork of uoxclassic. Although not a copyright lawyer, I am pretty certain we are safe as just plain old GPL.

Update: Apparently uox was always licensed with an extra clause, I didn't realize that, since I wasn't into the emu thing way back then. Anyhow, punt pointed me to a good copy of the original license I can use now, and I think I am complying with it fully by leaving UOX:NG GPL'd.

UOX:NG is an Ultima Online (UO) server emulator for unix systems, including linux, freebsd, netbsd, openbsd, mac osx, and solaris. Uoxng is derived from the source of the original uox (Ultima Offline eXperiment) emu, and is gpl licensed. Uoxngd is the daemon, and although developed on bsd, we try to maintable full support for all unix operating systems. Our focus with uoxng is to provide the most stable, secure emulator available. Its no fun to try to run a shard when your emulator isn't reliable. Because there are plenty of other uox based emus, with not much real difference, I decided stability and security would be the main goals with uoxng. If you like uo, but you don't like what origin did to it, give UOX:NG a try.
