Valentine's Day (14.02.2005) the Commonwealth Bank of Australia formally gave notice of cessation as a substantial shareholder in coal bed methane gas mining company Sydney Gas.

Sydney Gas Chief Operations Manager, Andrew Purcell, criticised by The United Kingdom Parliament

Named in the Hansard Report, House of Commons . . .

The Minister may be interested to know that at a public meeting over a year ago, StrataGas managing director, Mr. Andrew Purcell, told local people, in his trademark listening style:

     "The Government has given us the right to drill whether you like it or not."

I am sure that the Minister will find it as galling as local people that StrataGas was implying DTI support, long before all the issues even started to be aired.

UK Methane Gas Company Fails

Andrew Purcell, the Managing Director behind failed United Kingdom methane gas mining company StrataGas, left the UK and joined Sydney Gas. The StrataGas web site is still running, but the company is not.

The lights are burning, but nobody is home!

Unwanted gas halts Molopo's production

Shares in Molopo Australia Limited (MPO) dropped 8% on 7 September 2004 after the company advised that work on its Coal bed methane project at New South Wales’ Gloucester Basin had been suspended because gas started venting from a number of old boreholes in the area.

This problem has occurred frequently in the United States. Australian methane gas companies have continually denied that venting, other than from a well, can occur. Obviously they are wrong.
