Gothic-Inspired Church of Calape

Today is Sunday, and in the Christian world, today is the day when God rested after creating all the things in heaven, on earth and anything in between. Sundays remind me of my weekly obligations to go to church and attend the services.

During my younger days, when I was still living in Calape, Bohol while studying my elementary education, the imposing figure of the Gothic-Inspired Church of Calape is what dominates the skyline of this small town. Even from afar (for example when I am riding a ferry boat from Tagbilaran to Cebu), the spires of this unique church can be seen.

A lot of people say that the church is very simple when viewed from the human eye. But when photographed, the church becomes something else--transformed into a beauty and an enigma. Well, it is for you to judge if this is indeed true.

As a bonus, I have also added two pictures of the church's adjacent plaza where a spiral Christ the King statue hovers above it.

Hey! I found your site thru the Catholic Answers Forums! I'm from Cebu and I have been to Calape, especially your church. We took pictures of the facade and etc. I really like your quiet town...and I especially love the takla!

I also found you through forums at catholic.com. You have such a lovely church, and it is so bright and cheerful! My church, though I don't have pictures, gets incredibly dark on the inside on cloudy days, but the lit candles do show up very nicely, and can be quite peaceful.
