Montreal allowed six straight goals to open the contest and could not recover thereafter. ... G Cristobal Huet allowed six goals on 25 shots and subsequently was pulled after 23 minutes, 13 seconds of play. Huet officially was named to the All-Star Game as a reserve but still saw his record fall to 17-9-3 on the season. ... C Chris Higgins opened the scoring for Montreal at 5:20 of the middle period, ending Ottawa's string at six. ... D Sheldon Souray netted his 15th goal, a power-play tally in the third period. It was his 12th of the season with the man advantage, a new franchise record for a defenseman.
