How you can help
Cash Gifts - Currency, Checks, and Credit Cards The simplest and most direct gift to make is a gift of cash. These gifts are generally deductible for income tax purposes, subject to limitations. You may do this by mail, or by bringing your contribution to:
If you are donating by credit card, you can do so on-line right here. We currently accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Please fill in the form below and submit it electronically. All transactions are confidential, and done via secured methods to protect your information and privacy. You could name the Idaho Catholic Foundation in your will. There are many ways of structuring gifts in a will and/or trust. Such bequests can take the following forms:
A donation can often be arranged simply with the addition of a codicil amending your existing will. You should check with your attorney as to the appropriate method to accomplish your objectives. Your assets would be placed in Trust and the Idaho Catholic Foundation would receive income for a period of time and then the assets would return to you or your beneficiary at the end of a designated period. You can place the assets you wish to donate into a Trust and retain the right to current trust income. At the end of a period of time, the remainder goes to the Idaho Catholic Foundation. This method of donation, can provide a fixed amount of income (Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust) or a variable level of income (Charitable Remainder Unitrust). Life insurance policies can be an effective way of donating to the Idaho Catholic Foundation. If you have existing life insurance that you no longer need to provide for your loved ones, consider making the Idaho Catholic Foundation the beneficiary of the policy. The policy proceeds are then deductible for your estate tax purposes. Or you can take out a policy specifically to provide for the Idaho Catholic Foundation. If you make the Idaho Catholic Foundation the owner of a policy you may also receive a current tax deduction. You may be able to take advantage of employer matching gift programs. Many employers will match dollar for dollar or a certain percentage on the amount of gift made by individual employees to qualified charities. This method of contribution not only provides a deduction for you, but it increases the level of your gift by combining it with the donation of your employer. A gift of marketable securities that are otherwise subject to long-term capital gains is often quite advantageous. Under this method, you get to deduct the appreciated value of the stock, and avoid payment of capital gains tax on the increase in the value of the stock that has happened since you originally purchased it. There are restrictions that apply under this method, and each individual should check with their tax accountant/attorney prior to donation.
Whether it's your stamp or coin collection, an antique, your home, or a piece of unused vacation property, you can receive a deduction for the fair market value of the gift subject to certain limitations in the year of donation to the Idaho Catholic Foundation. We would then convert the property to cash to be used in ministry. IRA and Retirement Benefit Plans: If you do not have any heirs and want to contribute, one method is to name the Idaho Catholic Foundation as the beneficiary of your IRA account or Retirement Benefit Account at your Employer. By doing so, you avoid the estate taxes on that may be applicable on these assets. ** Under any of the above methods, you should consult your own tax accountant prior to donating to determine the optimum benefit to be obtained in your own personal situation. |
