We have a winner - New Sunbird logo chosen

A new logo and new icons for Sunbird have been chosen. The winner of the Sunbird logo and icon contest is Mark Carson. You can see his final proposals on the contest page. The winner was chosen by a community vote. Mark won the contest with 59.70% of all votes (40 votes out of 67). Close behind came Suslik with 37.31% of all votes (25/67). Last but not least was Jeff Hottinger whose proposal got 2.99% of all votes (2/67). Thanks a lot to all participants and congratulations to Mark. We hope to see much more of your work in the future.

PS: New builds and possibly a first technology preview of Sunbird will be available by the end of August or sooner.

Great, so now I can have a cat playing with some blue wool, an envelope with a haircut and a spreadsheet in front of the top of a tree, all in my quick launch.

But I do think Marks icon set fits best with all others and at anything other than 16x16 it's really nice.

That's not a tree, that's parsley on the side of your spreadsheet. You don't have to eat it, it's just to add a bit of color to your dish. Seriously, I had not heard the "tree" part before. You are right, 16x16 is pretty hard to get something that does not look ridiculous or suggests something entirely unrelated. The alternative was to have just a calendar (without the parsley) but when I suggested this in the MozillaZine forums, I did not get a very favorable responce, so the nose goblin stays for now.

BTW - can you tell what this is? (16 pixels tall)

Answer hereThanks for your feedback.

...I could tell what that icon was. I had to lean forward a little to see it though (I'm running at 2048x1536 or somthing so 16x16 was a little small)

Actually, I could. The fact that the file you linked had the name of the object right in it was kind of a dead giveaway. The status bar is simply too visible. :-)

I missed the tree and the parsley. I just saw a stylized letter "C" in green and thought, "Gee, that's clever how the artist used the hummingbird to form the letter; no mistaking that it's the Calendar app."

Guess my thought processes are just too literal. In any event, the icon set is attractive; and I like the way it compliments the Firefox and Thunderbird sets. "Thank you" to Mark Carson for a job well done!

I could even find out what/who it is on my 1024x768 12 inch. If I know what it is when its bigger, it's not difficult to recognize it in 16x16.

It is a shame that branding seems to be such a problem for Mozilla, it is only recognizable as a bird at 256x256... I'll leave the blame with who-ever thought up the "Sunbird" name in the first place.
