Central timetable system
Activities in shared spaces are scheduled via the central timetable system. Building supervisors and security staff are exclusively responsible for opening and closing these spaces, according to the published timetable, which they receive each week from the Timetable Office.
Room maintenance
A detailed maintenance regime is in place for all equipment in shared learning spaces. Maintenance is a shared responsibility between the Teaching and Learning Support Services Group and Property and Campus Services. Maintenance of the room fabric and fittings is the responsibility of Property and Campus Services.
Overall strategic direction
Create flexible and collaborative spaces that support e-learning and professional coursework programs.
Transform spaces previously designed as “traditional” lecture theatres into highly innovative learning environments that support the active e-learning styles sought by "digital natives" - the technologically adept generation that comprises the majority of our undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Our learning environment is continuously reviewed in response to:
- Shifting pedagogical approaches
- Increasing volume of professional coursework programs
- Rising student expectations
- Technological evolution
Minimum equipment specifications for each room type are updated each semester as we deploy more modern equipment in response to student and academic requirements.
Planning targets (by March 2008, subject to budget approvals)
- Improve furniture quality in eSeminar rooms
- Create five additional eSeminar rooms with capacity greater than 40 students, which are easily accessible for professional programs during evenings/weekends
- More eLearning studios [increase to 12]
- More learning suites and student workshops [increase to 82], with a corresponding reduction in seminar rooms
- Convert selected theatres to flexible and innovative learning environments (where practicable).
The database should be accessible from all staff computers on campus. If you wish to obtain off-campus access to this database, then you will need a secure VPN connection to the University network.
