The Polish have had a presence in this country since the settlement of Jamestown, VA.

During the American Revolution, some Poles came to America to support the patriots' cause. Major immigration occurred in the 19th century, and again, after World War I.

In the 2000 census, 8,977,235 people in the U.S. claimed Polish ancestry.
